There comes a point when the need for change becomes undeniable, pushing us to seek a path that better aligns with our values and goals. For me, that moment led to a journey of transformation, finding a new direction that brought fulfillment, balance, and genuine joy to my life.
When I had my first daughter, Daisy, I was driving a school bus in the early mornings, teaching fitness classes during the day, bartending at night, guiding zip-line tours on weekends, and running a daycare out of my home. As a single mom, I had to do it all: be the provider, nurturer, homemaker, and so much more. But as our family grew, with Poppy and Della Rose, I knew I had to find a better balance between work and being there for my daughters.
I’ve always believed in hard work and doing whatever it takes to get the job done. My parents instilled those values in me early on. We moved to Cathey’s Valley when I was very young—they bought a piece of land and my dad, a general contractor, built our family home and a home for Grandma Daisy to live in. I was also inspired by my mother, a successful author, who pursued her dreams all while raising us.
As my kids grew older, I realized that I needed a different approach—I wanted to find a greater purpose and a more sustainable way to provide for them. At that time, I was working as a property manager, overseeing rental properties for a real estate broker. It inspired me to go a step further, wanting to create something of my own.
After getting my real estate license, I hit the ground running, but building a real estate business from scratch was anything but easy. In the beginning, it was a struggle to find clients and establish myself in a competitive market. The first year was challenging, and then COVID-19 hit, further complicating things.
During this time, the Mariposa Board of REALTORS® lost its Association Executive, leaving us in a vulnerable position. There was even talk of dissolving the board altogether. However, Mariposa County is so unique from the rest of California and I, along with a few seasoned agents, took a stand and voted against disbanding the board. We knew that the board played an essential role in representing and advocating for our local REALTORS® in this unique rural market. We rallied together, took on additional responsibilities, and worked tirelessly to keep the board alive and functioning.
Through all of this, my business really began to pick up. As my confidence developed, I was able to better serve my clients and in 2022, had my best year yet! Now, as I step into the role of President for the Mariposa Board of REALTORS®, I’m proud to say that our board is not only surviving but thriving. It’s a testament to the strength of our community and our commitment to supporting each other in this profession.
Through real estate, I have been able to not only change my life, but also have a greater impact in the community I love. My goal is to continue helping more people each year and to invest in properties that one day, I can pass down to my kids. I want to create a legacy reflecting the hard work and dedication that has always been at the core of our family.
In 2021, I met my fiancé, Rom, who quickly became an incredible supporter for both me and my daughters. He’s very involved with my girls and coaches Poppy’s soccer team and is always there for our girls. I value staying connected to our community, being involved with my daughters’ school, attending local events, supporting 4H, contributing to the county fair, and serving on the board of the Owens Creek Property Owners Association. In my spare time, I enjoy being creative through crocheting, macramé, and painting.
Having my parents close by and giving my kids the opportunity to grow up with their grandparents is something I cherish, because for me, being close to family is very important. Whether it is being close to family, having a specific lifestyle, or simply liking a neighborhood, I want to uncover the greater motivations behind the reason my clients are buying or selling in order to deliver the best service possible.
I believe in building lasting relationships with my clients, not just facilitating a transaction and moving on. My goal is to be a friendly, supportive presence throughout the entire process and beyond. Whether it’s guiding you through paperwork, hand-delivering documents, or simply being there to answer any questions, I’m committed to making the experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible. I want my clients to know that they can always reach out to me, even after the sale is done! It's about creating friendships, long-term relationships, and I genuinely love being there for people.
Sincerely,
Kelly Salonen
